Gurbani Quotes

The very original version of the Sikh holy book is known as Adi Granth (original scripture) and is still extant. It is located at Kartarpur Sahib in Punjab, India. It is the possession of the Sodhi family. Its scribe was Bhai Gurdas Ji, who was the maternal uncle of Guru Arjan Dev, the fifth Sikh Guru and compiler of the Adi Granth.

The custodians of this holy scripture open it for viewing on the Baisakhi Day each year (on or around April 13). However, they refuse to give it to the Sikhs. The Sodhi family refused to share it with even Guru Gobind Singh. This is the reason he prepared the expanded recension at Talwandi Sabo (now Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib). Its scribe was Shahid Bhai Mani Singh. In it, he included the Bani of Guru Tegh Bahadur, his father. He did not include his own scriptures in it.
