ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਜਗ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Houmai Kar Kar Jaaeisee Jo Aaeiaa Jag Maahi ||
हउमै करि करि जाइसी जो आइआ जग माहि ॥
Whoever comes into the world and indulges in ego, must depart.

ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਕਾਜਲ ਕੋਠੜੀ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਹ ਸੁਆਹਿ ॥
Sabh Jag Kaajal Kotharree Than Man Dhaeh Suaahi ||
सभु जगु काजल कोठड़ी तनु मनु देह सुआहि ॥
The whole world is a store-house of lamp-black; the body and mind are blackened with it.

ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਭਾਹਿ ॥੭॥
Gur Raakhae Sae Niramalae Sabadh Nivaaree Bhaahi ||7||
गुरि राखे से निरमले सबदि निवारी भाहि ॥७॥
Those who are saved by the Guru are immaculate and pure; through the Word of the Shabad, they extinguish the fire of desire. ||7||
